Paid to blog update

SMORTY.COM is the latest paid to blog service that I have registered for, most of these type of services are very similar to each other, but there are some distinctive points worth remarking upon regarding smorty:
  • You get paid weekly!!
  • You have 72 hours to claim an opportunity
  • You may post your opinion, you are not required to endorse any product or service
  • Minimum 150 words, maximum 400 words per post

Initially there were just three opportunities available, but a fourth one appeared this week, and I remain hopeful that other opportunities will be offered. I have been paid for the first weeks 'work' so can report that much at least.

This month has proved that as far as earning potential is concerned, no other service can get near PayPerPost in my opinion. Even for a PR2 blog like Munny4Hunny, there are new opportunities every day ranging from $5 to $15. If you have a PR6 blog, earnings can be in the hundreds for a single post...

Blogsvertise appears to have all but dried up for this blog at least.

I am new to Bloggerwave, but at the moment, I have completed three offers and no more have appeared - but I can report that they have paid out and the money is sitting in my paypal account...

My one other source of income that I have not really talked about until now is an online survey company.
Ciao pay out in £GBP, they send me surveys by email, I fill out the survey and cash rewards are credited to my account. This did not yield anything for the first couple of weeks, but then the surveys started coming in. It has proved a useful additional income which doesn't take as much creative brainpower as paid to post. Most surveys start with a few questions to determine whether you are a suitable candidate, and I qualify for about half of the surveys I am sent. The payouts are small but not a bad return for minimal effort. For ease of comparison, I have assumed an exchange rate of $2US to £1GBP. They also offer opportunities to do product reviews but I haven't really worked out how this works yet...

I will add the latest paid to blog schemes to the 'quick search' in the side bar and look forward to posting actual earnings for May 2007 very shortly...

Madeleine McCann abducted in Portugal

I don't know what else there is that can be done to publicise the disappearence of Maddy McCann, but I think the blogging community may be able to do a small amount to help get Maddy's picture around the globe. If you don't know the story, this little girl (4 years old) was abducted whilst on Holiday in Portugal, click on the picture to visit the official site for the full story. Maddy has a distinctive pupil in her right eye that will help to distinguish her even if she has her hair altered... I would be grateful if other bloggers could take up this story and put a picture of Maddy on their website. I am not personally connected to this story in any way, but have been touched by the plight of Maddy's parents (having a similar aged child myself).
I would be delighted to see other bloggers all over the world helping to publicise this story as Maddy could be anywhere in the world right now and having her picture in the public domain may just help someone to identify her.

Looking towards the end of May

My month of blogging to maximise paid to blog earnings is nearly over. Munny4Hunny currently has a Page rank of 2, so earnings only reflect what is possible with a PR2. I don't have any intention of posting quite as frequently as I have during May (this being my 48th post), on a regular basis until I get a new page rank, and then maybe I should repeat the experiment as a comparison. In a few days time, I will be publishing my earnings (I can tell you that I definitely exceeded my $100 target).

I have learned a number of things this month, mostly about how PPP is the leading paid to blog scheme by a long way, but also about saving posts as 'drafts' for future use (I have even started saving potential adverts...!), and I am picking up hints about running competitions which may be useful over the coming months.
I really have to concentrate on building up links during June, so I will be trawling blog-land for like-minded bloggers to partner with. If this is you, and we are not already linked, please leave me a comment.

Interest free credit card offer from Mint

One of the steps to overcome credit card debt that I blogged about in my 5-part series entitled ‘the quickest way to make money’, is to get yourself an interest free credit card. Having an interest-free period is a prime opportunity to pay off some of the capital of your debt. Currently ‘Mint’ credit card are offering 0% interest up to August 2008 on credit transfers with another opportunity to extend beyond that period. If you have a credit-card balance that you are finding it hard to get on top of and you haven’t yet got a 0% credit card, you should definitely consider this deal. If you do switch credit-cards don’t forget to close your old account as having open but unused credit card accounts on file can negatively affect your credit rating. That tip is from personal experience!!

Free mini-banners - part 3

So far three new Munny4Hunny mini-banners have been commissioned, take a look at these banners and let me know if you would like a free banner for your website or blog:

Stratz's Blog Gold Rushin Add your link exchange

Along the path of production, a couple of alternatives were produced before settling on a final finished product. I will show you those too, just to give an idea of the processes that go into making the banners...

If you would like something similar custom-made just for you, then drop me a comment - see the original post for rules of engagement! See the follow-up post to find out how to implement the banner.

Digital photo frames from Digitalframez.com

The digital photo frame is here… and will revolutionise the way we view digital imaging in the future.
The photography market has changed out of all recognition in the last decade or so, with the prevalence of digital imaging, camera-phones and associated technology. There have been many advances in photo technology over the years since the introduction of the first ever camera, but none quite so revolutionary as the digitisation of the market. Who, even a few years ago, would have thought that you would be able to stroll around with your digital camera or camera-phone, take hundreds of pictures in one go, and then in minutes, have them displayed on a digital frame on your desk or wall. With almost every household having a digital imaging device, digital picture frames from DigitalFramez.com make a great gift and are the perfect way to display your favourite digital images and movies.

SMORTY - an update

I am happy to report that SMORTY.COM are as good as their word and paid out after a week. the posts took a few days to get approved, and there were not a lot of opportunities to take. I took two opportunities at $6 per post, a third post was available for $4.80, but I had already done the same promotion under a different scheme. In fact it's not uncommon to see the same oppurtunity on several different schemes - sometimes it pays to shop around for who is offering the best price!

I will be reporting on SMORTY.COM again next month and will be able to let you know if there have been any further opportunities offered...

First steps to Rehab.

Facing up to addiction has to be one of the hardest things an individual can do, and it cannot be done alone. A new website has been set up promoting a 28 day drug rehab unit in Michigan treating addicts from across the US. The program offers detoxification and education to help combat addiction. The treatment comes under four major headings:
Stage 1 – Detoxification and Withdrawal
Stage 2 – Self Control and Communication Exercises
Stage 3 – Sauna Cleansing Process
Stage 4 – Study Improvement
If you know someone with an addiction problem, the first step is to get them to recognise the problem. The second step would be to get them onto a program like this that will give them hope for a life after addiction.

Free mini-banners - part 2

Following on from an earlier post, this is the post which addresses the HTML code for inserting a mini-banner or any other picture with a hyperlink into a blog or website. I usually use a WYSIWYG web designing package (Dreamweaver) which allows you to easily access the code for your pages, but you might say why would you need to even look at the code. The reason is this: If you have to carry out a repetitive task, it is sometimes easier to copy and paste the code than it is to use the WYSIWYG interface. I find myself using the code and just changing the URL and the 'src' (source) elements when I am displaying a list of mini-banners, you can also do the same with 'alt' and 'title' tags (for SEO) and usually this is quicker than using the main layout interface. HTML code is also required for pasting into interfaces such as the 'blogger' dashboard that I use here.

Now, I can't just type in the code here as it won't display, so I am going to use a graphic with the code which you can copy out. Another way of getting this code would be to go to my sidebar and lift the code for my mini-banner and then adapt it with your own parameters. Don't be put off by the length of it, I will attempt to break it down to make it simple...

All this code, just for this little banner: Gold Rushin - OK then, to break it down, the URL after 'href' is where the banner points to if someone clicks on it.. using '_blank' as the target ensures that the webpage opens up in a new window. The title is an SEO-friendly tag, good idea to use a keyword here, border indicates pixel-size of a surrounding border for the image 0=no border. The 'alt' tag displays if the image cannot be seen (ie. if there is a problem at the hosting server, or your browser settings do not allow the image to be shown). Width = width of image (pixels), the URL following 'src' indicates where on the world wide web, the image is actually stored (uploaded) - and height = height in pixels.....simple really!

border, width, height, alt & title tags are optional, but recommended.

Thanks to 'J' of Gold Rushin for being the first to take up the challenge...you have the choice of two free mini-banners!

Mini-banner exchange

I have spent far too much time lately playing with Adobe 'Fireworks' software and making small-scale banners for websites and blogs. These mini-banners are very popular in the world of social bookmarking for 3 main reasons:
  1. Good publicity - a mini-banner offers more functionality that a mere text link

  2. Publishers like them - bloggers and webmasters are happy to host them as they are neat, compact and generally quite appealing

  3. They look good - it gives a positive impression about how you want your site or blog to be integrated into the internet community

The specifics are that they can be made up from .gif .png or .jpg files (no doubt other format will work, but these are the three types I have used) and in in general around 80-82 pixels long and 15-17 pixels high. I have used MSpaint (at the beginning) and fireworks (more recently) to ceate them, but you can use any graphics software that will allow you to manipulate the size, colour and text content.

I have recently completed six of these which I will paste here as examples:

mmmtalk forum mmmtalk Hill City Church Livewyre our blog review Munny4Hunny

I have the beginnings of an idea for a link exchange - If you host (any) two of the banners above on the sidebar of a blog or anywhere in a website - I will make a banner for you.....

So here are the rules: You must carry two of these banners complete with the hyperlink to their respective website - you can copy and paste the banner from here or link the 'src' code to their current 'home' on one of my sites.

Leave me a comment or send me an email and I will not only create a unique mini-banner for you (I'll even host it if you like), but I will paste the banner linked to your website in a update post on my blog. I retain the right to reject an application from a site that has questionable content... If you are not sure how to use HTML to insert these banners into your website, this will be addressed in my next posting....

I'm not promising artistic miracles since I am not at all talented in this area, however I will do my best, you can obviously dump it if you don't like my puny efforts...

PayPerPost Trumps ReviewMe

Paid to post bloggers will no doubt already be fully aware that PayPerPost leads the paid to blog market by a long long way, so keeping up with the latest PPP developments is an absolute necessity.
PPP has evolved a new service for paid to post bloggers to advertise their services directly to prospective advertisers. You place a widget on your site for would-be advertisers to click and negotiate a direct deal for you to create a post to promote their product or service on your blog. You can set your own rates and sit back to wait for the advertisers to come to you.
So how does this differ from ‘ReviewMe’ or ‘Sponsored Reviews’? Simple, you get a bigger slice of the action. ReviewMe will typically charge your client between 50 and 100% markup on your price, meaning they may keep up to half the total fee. PPP Direct will only charge a service fee of 10%, (5% of which are transaction costs such as paypal or credit-card processing costs) leaving far more of the profit on your plate. Get more details by heading over to the PPP blog, or watching the video
What’s more, is that PPP are going to be promoting the sites that take up this offer by building a directory – and since a link from PPP has to be a real bonus, this is looking more and more like a win-win blogging opportunity…

Guaranteed monetising income

I have written a post before about monetising your site/blog via Adsense or affiliates, I am now going to offer a third way. This is a scheme offering a guaranteed pre-arranged revenue for hosting a set of adverts. Bucks4Banners offer the chance of a fixed monthly payment for hosting three banner adverts on your website. They are currently offering a bonus payment just for signing up, and rewards for referrals.
To be more precise then, Bucks4Banners are offering a monthly payout of £5 (approx $10) if you host a (different) advertising banner on each of three pages on your website. You submit your three nominated pages for approval, then when these are accepted, you are given codes to be pasted into those pages. The bonus I was offered applies if you post the code within 72 hours, needless to say, I didn't hang around..!
If you want to see an example, I nominated my home page (website, NOT blog..), the banner is blended into the foot of the page. Another example here where the banner can again be seen at the foot of the page. As earnings from this should be attributed to my website rather than my blog, I won't be adding the earnings to my total Munny4Hunny earnings.
This is a scheme that you can easily run alongside any other existing monetising ideas that you have in place, but with the advantage that you know how much you will be paid. With hosting being so cheap nowadays, this scheme could cover your website hosting costs every month.

A review of 'Review My Blog'..

I am sure we are all aware that linking between websites is a major factor in website rankings and SEO in general. Blogs are of course, no exception and are in fact a lot easier to get links and reciprocal links for than a conventional site. Why is this? well simply put, we are all after the same thing, maximum exposure for minimum input and linking between blogs helps to achieve this. One of the most popular ways of linking is for blogs to offer reviews of other blogs much in the same vein as OurBlogReview, the brain-child of Greg Stratz.

Dango from Review My Blog has kindly reviewed two of my blogs, and like Greg, he is fully prepared to offer this service without a reciprocal link. But Hey - one good turn deserves another so I have cast my eye over his review blog. I first came across Dango when he started his free reviews blog - He has now had so many requests for blog reviews that he has started a new site just to carry the blog reviews. So far, only 5 reviews have been completed on this relatively new blog (but 2 of them are mine, so I'm very happy!!), there are a list of 16 pending reviews so plenty to keep Dango busy for a while.

The reviews are well-observed and well-written, the site is well laid-out and easy to navigate. Dango says he enjoys writing, so long may he continue - and if you would like your site or blog (or anything) reviewed, drop him a comment.

Tips for Bloggers

I am adding a new 'quick search' category today under the title 'Blogging Tips', clicking on this link will short-list all my posts that contain hints and tips for new bloggers. Today's useful tip is to utilise the 'blogger' facility that can send you an email when someone leaves a comment againat one of your posts - this has three-fold benefits:
  1. No more trawling for comments

  2. Enables quick responses to comments

  3. Can let you know even if a really old post has been commented on

Now, I'm sure many bloggers are already using this facility, but I admit that I have only started using this in the last few months and I have found it to be particularly useful - so just in case you haven't enabled this feature, do it now!!

Practical help on how to post every day

If you do not enjoy the luxury of having the time to sit in front of your PC blogging all day, then you will need a strategy for keeping the posts flowing. My strategy involves writing several posts in one block and storing them as 'draft' posts.
Of course you don’t have to save your future posts in ‘draft’ and I guess not all blog services offer this facility (?) I use blogger. My original method of storage was an open ‘Word’ document physically located on my pen-drive.
That way, it doesn’t matter what PC I am using or where I am, I can add to my future posts at any time or copy and paste them to my blog.
On reflection, I should have thought about archiving all my posts locally in case I needed them in the future – I haven’t done it, I have just deleted most of the draft posts, but I think if I was starting again, I would keep a copy of all my posts somewhere in case I wanted to edit them and use them again.

One more tip for you, if you find that a post you are composing is getting lengthy – find a suitable cut-off point and turn it into two posts, one for now, and one for later. I guess my average word count is probably around 300 words or so, so when I get to over 500 words I start to look back and find where I have changed the angle or direction of the post. I separate it into two posts, pad out the separate sections and save one of them for another day. There is no set level of average word-count, my tip would be to find a blog that you enjoy reading and emulate the average word-count you find there. Some bloggers struggle to squeeze 50 words out, some can fill a page with fascinating copy...
If you were really focussed, there is no reason that you couldn't do a weeks worth of copy in one go and just post when needed (like storing up dinners in the freezer!). This would leave you free to concentrate on either builing up links or blogging for cash. In case the message of previous posts needs repeating - you can't take this approach with paid-to-blog offers as they are too dynamic and there is no guarantee that the offer is still on the table when you come to post it.

Smorty.com connecting advertisers with bloggers

I was looking for another string to my money-earning bow, when my attention was drawn to http://www.smorty.com. Smorty is easy to register with, like many other services you register your details online, reply to the confirmation email and wait for your blog to be approved (within 72 hours). My blog was approved in less than 24 hours, so the system is working well so far...

Offers have a minimum of around $6 payout with a possible maximum of $100, you are paid on a weekly basis, and higher PR blogs get higher rewards. There is a minimum word count of 150, maximum of 400 per post. You have 72 hours to accept a post (offers can be emailed to you) after which the offer may go to someone else. Unlike some other schemes, you ARE penalised for lack of participation...
Normal rules about unsuitable content apply and your blog must be 3 months old to qualify. They say they have 25 different criteria that you must fulfill, but not all criteria are listed. I look forward to trying out the scheme and getting paid weekly!!

Visit Smorty like I did today and get paid to blog and advertise on blogs

Making hay while the sun shines

Well yesterday was an odd day for posting… I slipped up firstly because I saw a few days ago that there were three new opps in PPP with $8-$10 rewards (that’s about the most I usually get offered for posts on a PR2 blog). I figured that I would select them over the next week or so – That was my mistake… I logged in the next day, and although they were potentially long-running campaigns, they had already disappeared - I guess the quota of ads had been taken by all those eager PR2 bloggers out there…
At the same time I decided to investigate PPP TOS (terms of service) – see below .. and discovered that you can actually publish three PPP opps per day (if you post other stuff in between).

I hadn’t planned to go down the multi-post route, but had visited PPP and found two NEW opps for $8 and £10, so I naturally started on the better-paid one.
I completed the post, did all the research and added in a media file only to find that when I went to ‘accept’ the offer, I got re-directed out of the PPP website. This happened at least three times, so I thought I would leave that post in ‘drafts’ and see if I could do the other one.

I completed the second post after extensive research and much creative thinking (!) and that one went through fine. I got on with the job of re-writing my ready-prepared draft of the days’ personal post, and when I had finished, I went back to PPP to see what changes had taken place (I logged a ‘ticket’ about the faulty ‘accept’ URL). I tried the same offer again and this time it worked – with no further ado, I published my already completed post, added in the widgets and had two PPP ads up and running on the same day. This left me with having to create another personal post, so I completed another post in order that there was no chance of having two PPP ads sitting next to each other.

Lessons learned:

  • PPP have an ever-changing range of offers – call back often

  • These offers are taken quickly – take what you can while you can

  • Have several ready-made personal posts in ‘drafts’ or stored somewhere so you can ‘whip em out’ when you need to pad your ads out…

ShelterOffshore.com - a review

Working and acquiring Property Abroad may be a pipe dream for many of us, but for those with the vision it can be a reality. Two weeks ago I met a guy with extensive properties in Bulgaria, (he plans to retire out there), and this week one of my colleagues announced he was off to work abroad (again). Tax issues are a major concern for offshore workers as your hard-earned cash can become subject to a high-rate of income tax when you bring it back into the country. I have another (Maltese) friend who worked in Australia about fifteen years ago, to the best of my knowledge, his wages are still sitting in a bank in Australia as he will lose a very substantial amount if he brings his earnings home.
How are these pitfalls avoided? Well you get some good advice (preferably before you go..). Most of us avoid these kind of scary prospects because we just don’t know enough about the ins and outs. A service called ShelterOffshore has been launched offering plenty of advice to the wandering worker and offshore investor. From buying property to opening a bank account and even Offshore company formation, ShelterOffshore has valuable well-researched advice and assistance to offer under three major headings:

Each section contains a wealth of articles covering (in the case of ‘living’ and ‘property’) in-depth info for each of more than a dozen specific countries from Belize to new Zealand. Alongside these articles replete with idyllic photos of these faraway shores, sits the hard facts on tax avoidance and asset protection which will hopefully keep you solvent whilst enjoying the sun and scenery. If working or investing abroad is a reality for you, then you can do yourself a favour by taking note of what ShelterOffshore has to offer.

PPP update

I have been reading Payperpost terms of service and noted some interesting rules that you could easily miss:
  • You may post three PPP opps per day
  • You must post personal posts in between PPP posts
  • You must post a personal post at least every seven days
  • A personal post submitted on the same day as a PPP post does not count towards the one post every seven days

So beware! If you use the strategy I was aiming for ie. one PPP followed by one personal post, then you must ensure you continue to do personal posts but have at least one day off PPP in seven...otherwise you may be contravening the TOS. Of course you can make up for it by posting two or three opps a day...

I have added one other source of income - a UK survey company that pays a small amount for completion of online surveys. It took a while to be offered a survey, but they seem to be arriving regularly now - I will post about this at another time. Blogitive continues to reject my advances, as does Loudlanch - I will need to scout around for another source of income before the end of the month.

Mid-month review (MAY)

The month of May is intended to push the limits of what a PR2 blog can earn in a month.
I am active with four schemes:

  • Payperpost
  • Creamaid
  • Blogsvertise
  • Bloggerwave

I have had no 'offers' from Blogsvertise for quite a few weeks, and even then the last offer I completed for them took a month to get approved. Despite plenty of emails reassuring me that there are a lot of new offers coming and the service is improving, my experience is that this source of income has all but dried up. To be fair, they operate a 'grab bag' service where you can try posting for jobs that have not been taken up by other bloggers, unfortunately the opportunity that was offered to me under the 'grab bag' scheme was one I had completed already....

Payperpost has offered the largest amount of posts recently, although the rewards are generally low because this blog does not qualify for the higher earning opportunuties. My experience with Payperpost up to now has been good. Posts take around 5 days to get approved and earnings should arrive in my paypal account 30 days later.

I have recently been introduced to Bloggerwave which appears to model itself closely on payperpost (the login page apart from colours and logo is VERY similar). Currently there are three opportunities available and I have posted for all three, acceptance was prompt ie. within 48 hours, and again payment should be 30 days later. I will report on whether new opportunities become available when I do a summary at the end of this month.

Creamaid works differently to the other services and the more I use it, the more I like it. I have reported before that getting emails and getting in early on opportunities is key and this continues to be true. I have recently completed another $10 opportunity and got in early enough to get referrals again. Having said that, earnings continue to vary from $1 to $10, so you need to pick and choose if you want the higher earnings. There is no negative consequences of not participating in a post, so being picky won't affect the opportunities available to you.

With my strategy of posting every day, I have managed to 'earn' around $70 in half a month, my target is $100 for the month, but there is a limited amount of opportunities available to me, so I will be forced either to do the lower-priced jobs or find another fresh source of opportunities. One draw-back is that the same opp's often appear on different schemes and you can't post the same thing twice, however you can turn this to your advantage as sometimes they pay more through one scheme that they do through another so shop around...

I took a quick look at the list of their most popular brands and those three little letters stood out large to my eyes ‘GAP’. I don’t do a whole lot of clothes shopping, but I do love GAP. I love everything they do in their mens range and I love GAP kids and baby GAP for my little one. To think that I can visit Couponchief and take advantage of their GAP coupons and offers, is just too much of a temptation for a devotee like me. There is even a video on the page telling me how I can redeem the coupons on the GAP website – they’re making it too easy!!
So this is how you do it, visit the Couponchief store, choose your favourite retailer and see what deals you can get JUST because you visted Couponchief first!
