Native of Tanzania (hence the name), tanzanite rings are made using the rare gemstone Tanzanite. The stone gets it's familiar blue-violet hue when heated in a gemoligical oven, when freshly mined, it would normally be reddish brown in colour.
Jewelery manufactured with Tanzanite stones is very popular due to the attractive colourings of the stone. Occassionally Tanzanite will come in other colour hues such as greens, but these are usually referred to as Zoisite rather than Tanzanite.
