The symbol scanner is becoming a common sight, not only in Supermarkets but also in small businesses and manufacturers. A scanner can be used to log hire equipment or stock levels as well as many other purposes.
In the company that I work for, we have just started manufacturing and we are using bar-codes to help us find the hundreds of components, and then to keep track so that the stock levels are kept at a reasonable level. So far the systems are still being tested, but when it goes live, it is going to make the manufacturing process far quicker than the previous manual system.
